What is ExchangeMarket?

ExchangeMarket.ch is a Swiss Fintech start-up that has specialized in the online exchange of Swiss Francs and Euro. With our business model we are able to offer to our customers the best exchange rates in Switzerland completely independent on the amount they want to exchange.

Who can benefit from our service?

We aim to reach everyone who is looking for a simple and fair way to exchange currencies. This can be individuals as well as companies. The only requirement is to have a Swiss bank account in the currencies you would like to buy and sell.

What currencies are supported by ExchangeMarket?

We are a specialist in the Euro/Swiss Franc exchange. Therefore, we offer only the exchange between these two currencies.

Can I trust ExchangeMarket?

EM Exchange Market GmbH is a Swiss financial intermediary subject to SRO PolyReg and is monitored by SRO PolyReg with regard to compliance with the due diligence requirements under AMLA. For its part, the SRO PolyReg is subject to the supervision of FINMA and is monitored by FINMA.

Registration

How can I register?

It takes 4 steps to start benefiting from ExchangeMarket’s advantages:

  1. Go to ExchangeMarket.ch and create an account.
  2. After submitting the registration form with all the required data, an activation code will be sent to your address of residence per regular mail.
  3. Activate your account by entering the Activation Code
  4. Register your Swiss bank accounts in Euro & CHF.
  5. Done!

You can now perform your first transaction at ExchangeMarket.ch

Why do I have to register my EUR and CHF bank accounts?

Each transaction at ExchangeMarket.ch will always involve a EUR and a CHF account. From one of the two accounts you will make the payment for the bought currency and to the other account we will make the payment of the bought currency. In order to avoid any errors we are sending you always per email all exact instructions for the transacitons and payments. To be able to do this we need to know which account is you EUR account and which your CHF account.

Do I have to pay for registering?

Swiss regulations such as the Anti-Money Laundering Act set strict requirements for the acceptance of business relationships in connection with the identification of new customers. If you would like to change larger amounts, you will need a full profile. To upgrade your profile, please send us a certified copy of your identification documents and the signed Declaration of Beneficial Ownership received with the activation code.

What is a Basic Profile?

Having a basic profile at ExchangeMarket.ch will allow you to change up to CHF 5’000 or the equivalent in another currency on a monthly basis. ExchangeMarket has set this threshold in order to fully comply with Swiss regulations.

What is a Full Profile?

Swiss regulations such as the Anti-Money Laundering Act set strict requirements for the acceptance of business relationships in connection with the identification of new customers. If you would like to change larger amounts, you will need a full profile. To upgrade your profile, please send us a certified copy of your identification documents and the signed Declaration of Beneficial Ownership received with the activation code.

How can I get a certified copy of my identification document?

The Swiss Post offers an ID certification service called the Yellow Identification.

  1. Go to any Swiss Post Office with a photo-based identification document and ask at the counter for “The Yellow Identification”
  2. The Swiss Post employee checks the presented identification document (validity, photo), copies the required pages (personal details, photo, validity, any renewal) and stamps the copy of the presented identification document with the “Original document seen by” stamp. The Swiss Post employee then writes his surname and first name on the stamped form (in blue), signs the form and applies the post office date stamp.
  3. The fee for the yellow identification is CHF 25.
  4. Please send us the certified copy in order to activate the full profile.
  5. No documents are kept by Swiss Post, thus ensuring absolute discretion.

Accepted identification documents:

  • Passport
  • Identity card
  • Valid residency permit (foreigner’s residence permit) for Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein
  • Driver’s license (not incl. provisional license)
  • Diplomat’s passport
  • Travel documents for refugees
  • Valid identity card from the Swiss Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA).

Security

Is ExchangeMarket safe?

Our services follow the highest standards of security based on the following:

  • Identification of all ExchangeMarket users regardless of the profile
  • Full verification of a user’s identity when opening a full profile
  • Verification of ownership of registered bank account by our users
  • SSL Protocol encrypting data transmission with a 256 bit key

We will never ask you to do the following for security reasons:

  • Tell us your password (except when logging in)
  • Make your payment for bought currencies to a different bank account than the one listed in your transaction

Transactions and Billing

How does a transaction look like?

1. Log in to your user profile at ExchangeMarket.ch and choose the currency and amount you would like to buy or sell.
2. Pay for the currency you have bought. The system will show you the account to which you should make the bank transfer. This data will be sent to you additionally by email.
3. After receiving your payment, the acquired currency will be transferred to your registered bank account in the corresponding currency.

When entering the payment details please check that the bank transfer title is correct in order to speed your transaction

How long does it take to complete a transaction at ExchangeMarket?

At ExchangeMarket.ch your transactions are handled immediately. Our services make use of the banking system, thus making the time to complete a transaction dependent on the time that banks need for executing the payments. Depending on the currency, there’s sometimes a short processing time involved. CHF transfers arrive within only a few working hours, but Euro transfers can take 1-2 working days.

Are cross-border transactions allowed?

Addressing the needs and wishes of cross-border workers, we have introduced the possibility to make transfers from/to accounts in euro in Austria, France, Germany, Italy, Lichtenstein and other SEPA* countries. The euro account abroad must be in the name of the registered user at ExchangeMarket.

Can I perform payments to other users with ExchangeMarket?

Your name as registered in your profile must be the same as your bank account name.
ExchangeMarket.ch cannot process exchange transactions if a payment comes from a bank account of a person different to the one behind the ExchangeMarket profile.
If the money comes from someone else, ExchangeMarket.ch will refund it after contacting the person behind the transaction.

Are cash deposits allowed?

ExchangeMarket does not accept cash deposits.

Can I register a post account in order to make transactions?

Yes, post accounts are accepted.  We do not differentiate between normal bank accounts and post accounts.

The important thing is that both the EUR and the CHF accounts are in a Switzerland and you register them in the system using the IBAN format.

What happens after entering a transaction?

When you make a transaction, it is instantly registered in the system and you will be requested to pay for the bought currency via bank transfer.

As soon as the system receives the information from our bank that your payment has arrived, we submit to our bank a payment order from ExchangeMarket to your bank account.

In a final step you will receive a confirmation by email with the transaction summary.

Do I need to have a euro bank account in Switzerland?

No, it is not a requirement to have a euro account in Switzerland. It is now possible to make transfers from/to accounts in euro in Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Lichtenstein and other SEPA* countries.

Can I make payments to an account abroad?

Yes. At ExchangeMarket.ch it is possible to make transfers from/to accounts in euro in Austria, France, Germany, Italy and Lichtenstein and other SEPA* countries. For a complete list of SEPA countries click HERE. The euro account must be in the name of the registered user at ExchangeMarket.

My euro account is abroad. How can I make the payment to an account outside of Switzerland?

You can make payments to an account outside of Switzerland if:

1. The account is in France, Germany, Italy, Lichtenstein or any other country within the Single Euro Payment Area (SEPA), and

2. The account is in the name of the registered user at ExchangeMarket.

ExchangeMarket.ch is asking me to make the payment right after I have done the transaction of buying or selling euro. my bank however will execute the transaction the next day in the morning. Is this a problem?

No, this is not a problem. We ask our customer to make the payments right after the transaction, however not later than before the next labor day in order to ensure that we can make the payout the following labor day.

If there are delays in the payment caused due to customer negligence we preserve the right to rescind the transaction. The exchange rate is never subject to adjustment.

At ExchangeMarket.ch you are showing always the current exchange rate. Is this rate guaranteed or will you adjust the exchange rate later on?

The exchange rate at ExchangeMarket.ch is always guaranteed. This means that the applicable exchange rate for each transaction is always the rate displayed at the moment when the customer confirms the transaction in the system.

This exchange rate is binding for both parties and will not be adjusted. This means that we guarantee the exchange rate to our customers and our customers acknowledge the commitment for the payment.
